WEEK 14 11/28 - 12/2	We'll discuss options for Paper #4: Independent Reading/Writing/Thinking. Individual conferences are scheduled for Wednesday 11/28, Friday 12/2, and Monday 12/5. The conference schedule is available here.
WEEK 13 11/21 - 11/25	Casebooks due. No class Wed. and Fri. Happy Thanksgiving!!
WEEK 12 11/14 - 11/18	We'll be working on drafting and assembling the casebook project. The casebook will be due on Monday 11/21.
WEEK 11 11/7 - 11/11	We'll be working on gathering and evaluating sources for the casebook this week.
WEEK 10 10/31 - 11/4	Our library tour on Wednesday, November 2 has been rescheduled for Friday 11/4. We'll meet in FHG Library, Room 309 (3rd floor computer lab).
WEEK 9 10/24 - 10/28	We are working on argumentation; this week we will focus on analyzing the arguments of others and on coming up with debatable topics suitable for the Casebook project. Please note: our library tour is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2. We'll meet in FHG Library, Room 309 (3rd floor computer lab).
WEEK 8 10/17 - 10/21	We're finishing Paper #2. We'll begin discussing the Casebook Assignment this week.
WEEK 7 10/10 - 10/14	We're working on generating and drafting Paper #2.
WEEK 6 10/3 - 10/7	We're working on exercises related to profiles and reports. See the assignments page for the specific reading and writing assignments.
WEEK 5 9/26 - 9/30	The final draft of Paper #1 is due on Monday 9/26. We'll work on defiing the goals of objective writing and explore some of the genres you can choose to work with for your objective writing project.
WEEK 4 9/19 - 9/23	Conferences continue on Monday, 9/19; writing workshop on Wednesday, 9/21; editing workshop on 9/23.
WEEK 3 9/12 - 9/15	We'll continue to explore ideas related to the topic of identity, and we'll also begin discussing the various genres of expressive writing you can choose from to produce your first formal paper. Friday's class this week (9/16) and Monday's class next week (9/19) are cancelled in lieu of individual conferences in my office, Main Hall 312. WEEK 2 9/7 - 9/9	This week we're exploring various readings to inspire thinking about "IDENTITY."
WEEK 1 8/29 - 9/2	Welcome to Effective Writing I. This week we're exploring the aims of the course and some general principles that help define the essay as a distinct form of commnunication. We'll discuss the writers's choices revealed by considering "the rhetorical situation" of any piece of writing.
